Struggling to Teach Music, Get expert guidance through the curriculum

You’re Not Alone — Music Theory Can Be Overwhelming.

Can you relate to any of these?

  • You're not a trained musician

  • The textbook feels dry & confusing

  • Your student is frustrated or tuning out

  • Your worried about keeping up with the CC curriculum

Many CC parents feel this way — until they get the right help.

Cheryl Krichbaum, here. I remember the struggle through fall semester of Challenge 3.

Annette Towler on organ & Roger Towler singing

I knew enough music theory to sing in choir and play saxophone.

And I come from a musical family!

(That's my mom on pipe organ and my dad singing.)

Confused Challenge 3 Student

But at some point in the semester, I could no longer answer my son's questions.

"What you talkin' about, Mom?"

(That's my son when I explain music theory.)

Cheryl Krichbaum & Andrew Towler

Then I found out that my nephew Andrew, who inherited all my parents' musical abilities, taught music theory to a homeschool group local to him, and I exclaimed:

"CC parents need you!"

(That's Andrew & me at the pool when I was visiting my home state.)

Andrew Towler, YWEH music

So I convinced Andrew to create a Math in Motion coaching course as I had created a short story coaching course, and...

Students and parents love it!

(That's always-smiling Andrew in his studio.)

Encouraging & Fun

With YWEH music is life giving

From Theory's Order

God is the greatest artist, composer, and all around musician who has ever existed, and He made you! Music theory, for many, can be dense. But when you see the patterns, the beauty of the math that comes out just flows—flowing from creation's song!

Music becomes a mystery to solve! An adventure to take! A refection in a lake!

This is our gift from YWEH—to help us through life's moments! It is life giving!

Practical Insight

To Boundless Creativity

You have to know the practical theory of a car to drive a car. If you don't, then you can't enjoy amazing moments of driving the most enjoyable cars—not unlike music theory.

Understanding the practical theory of music gives you insight into the music, so you are able to create with it!

God does the same! Many times in scripture, God set order to things only to give us freedom to create with the canvas He laid out.

Andrew Towler

Music Educator. Worship Leader.

Trusted by the Classical Conversations Community.

Artistic Director, YWEH music

Hi, I’m Andrew Towler — a musician, worship leader, and experienced music educator. I’ve spent years teaching piano, guitar, drums, voice, and worship arts to students of all ages, helping them understand music not just as notes and rules — but as something joyful, expressive, and deeply meaningful.

Three years ago, my aunt — a long-time Classical Conversations parent and founder of a CC-aligned parent education company — asked me to step in and teach Math in Motion. She saw how many Challenge III families struggled to teach music theory without a musical background.

Since then, I’ve guided students and parents nationwide through the full Math in Motion curriculum using live, interactive Zoom classes that make complex concepts simple and fun.

I’ve had parents and Directors say to me:
“Where have you been all these years? You’re a godsend.”

This class is designed to relieve your pressure as a parent while giving your students the structure, clarity, and expert support they need to succeed—whether they’re entirely new to music or already playing an instrument.

Let’s make music theory one of the most confidence-building parts of their Challenge III year.

Still Have Questions

Here are answers to some of the most common concerns from parents just like you.

Do I need to stay on the Zoom call with my student?

Nope! You're welcome to observe, but the class is designed so your student can participate independently. That said, some younger students may benefit from occasional parent support early on.

What if I miss a class?

No problem — every class is recorded and uploaded to your private portal the same day. You’ll also get access to all previous years’ recordings as part of your enrollment.

Is this for Challenge III only?

Yes — this class is specifically designed for Classical Conversations Challenge III students using the Math in Motion textbook.

What if I’m not a musician — can I still support my student?

Absolutely. Most Challenge III parents aren’t musicians. This course takes that burden off your plate and gives your student expert, structured support — while keeping you informed with clear communication and progress.

Do you follow the Math in Motion book exactly?

Yes — we walk through the Math in Motion book in order, focusing on the essential theory concepts in a way that makes them click for your student.

Is this an official Classical Conversations class?

No — this is an independent program created by a CC parent to support Challenge III families. It complements your CC curriculum with specialized, musician-led instruction.

Do we need an instrument to participate?

Nope! Your student does not need to play an instrument. The class focuses on understanding how music works — notation, rhythm, structure — not performance.
